You Won’t Believe What This Good Samaritan Did To Rescue A Stranded German Shepherd on Busy I-94!
On Wednesday morning, a German Shepherd got loose and ran onto the westbound I-94 freeway causing drivers to slow down. A woman named Debbie Allen, who was on her way to meet a client for work, noticed the dog in the middle of the road and saw that it was limping, indicating that it had likely been hit. Debbie, who is also a dog owner, pulled over and made sure that the dog did not get hit by traffic. She huddled against the center divider holding the German Shepherd to keep it safe from incoming traffic.
“I saw a dog in the middle of the road and it was obviously limping so I knew it had been hit,” she said.
Debbie tried to loop around and get the dog but it got scared and ran back onto the highway. She ran after it and went back to her car to try to stop traffic as safely as possible while another driver stayed with the dog. When Debbie returned, the Michigan State Police had arrived.
She sat with the dog and reassured it that it was safe, and asked it to look at her to calm it down. The German Shepherd was well-fed, well-groomed, and well-behaved, but was likely scared and had escaped from someone’s yard. The Humane Society arrived on the scene and was able to take the dog safely away. The dog is not microchipped, and is currently at the Michigan Humane location on Chrysler Drive. Efforts are underway to locate the owner so that they can be reunited with their pet.
Debbie does not consider herself a hero, but rather a compassionate person who was in the right place at the right time to help a dog in need.
“I am not a hero just a human being,” Debbie said.
