In an incident that took place between June 13 and 15, a young male German Shepherd, who was neutered, is believed to have been abandoned along Coal Creek Canyon Road, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has made a public appeal this Thursday for any leads in a case involving animal cruelty, which began after the discovery of a dog’s body along a secluded Coal Creek Canyon Road in Boulder County’s unincorporated area.

A call was placed to the Sheriff’s Office on June 23rd by an individual who stumbled upon the carcass of the dog by the private road off Coal Creek Canyon Road.

Upon inspection of the deceased dog’s condition, the BCSO initiated an animal cruelty investigation. The deceased, a young neutered male German Shepherd, was found to have suffered from “multiple injuries”.

Investigations suggest that the unfortunate animal was abandoned along the road during the period between June 13th and 15th. The Sheriff’s Office mentioned that a game camera on the property during this timeframe captured a vehicle under suspicion, which could have been driven by the potential culprit.

This vehicle of interest is a Home Depot rental van with noticeable damage on the passenger side, near the rear tire, as per the Sheriff’s Office’s statement.

The investigation is currently being handled by the BCSO Animal Control unit. They urge anyone possessing any information concerning the deceased dog, potential suspect, or the mentioned vehicle, to contact them via email at rstreit@bouldercounty.gov. The relevant case number for reference is: #23-03388.
